The 308A Sheet Metal Worker Red Seal exam is Canada's national certification for sheet metal tradespeople working in HVAC ductwork fabrication and installation, architectural sheet metal, industrial exhaust systems, and commercial building work. The Red Seal 308A is recognized in all provinces and territories.

The exam consists of 120 multiple-choice questions based on the 2023 Red Seal Occupational Standard (RSOS) and aligned with SMACNA HVAC Duct Construction Standards, with a passing score of 70%.

• A — Common occupational skills — 24 questions (20%)
• B — Fabrication — 38 questions (about 32%), the largest single block

• D — Roofing & specialty products installation — 10 questions (about 8%)
• E — Maintenance — 7 questions (about 6%)

Every question is four-option multiple choice with exactly one correct answer, and the pass mark is 70%.
